Glossary of Casting Terminology "Q"
|quenching||A form of heat treatment in which a metal at high temperature is rapidly cooled in a medium (water, oil, etc.). This rapid cooling gives the metal new properties.|
|quenching and high temperature tempering||A steel heat treatment method to harden the metal after it has been rapidly cooled with quenching and then tempering in order to enhance the steel's toughness.|
|quenching delay||When the timing of the rapid cooling of the metal during quenching is delayed for some reason and the target properties for the work piece are not acquired.|
