Middle School Students Experience Engine Assembly and Disassembly

At the request of Shiroyama Junior High School in Iwata City, Shizuoka Prefecture, where the Company headquarters is located, we welcomed six second-year students for a workplace experience program. The students changed into matching blue coveralls and, like new service technicians, took on the challenge of disassembling and reassembling an engine. The training covered basic knowledge about the Company, the structure of the engine and how it generates power, principles for handling customer motorcycles, and how to use tools. By combining learning with hands-on work, the students had the opportunity to experience Yamaha Motor’s approach to manufacturing.

The most difficult part was installing the cam chain, which all teams successfully completed through trial and error alongside instructors. Finally, they tried starting the engine with a kickstarter for the first time and experienced a sense of accomplishment. Although the students showed signs of fatigue from the long hours of practical work, we believe they were able to experience the “challenges” and “enjoyment” of manufacturing, gain a sense of “responsibility” toward work, and take the opportunity to think about their future careers.
