President's Message
Management group message
February, 2019
Under the Long-Term Vision of ART for Human Possibilities, while growth will be centered on our existing businesses, we will promote new business development.
Our overarching corporate mission is to be a “Kando* Creating Company”, and we have grown by creating new value. This Kando is originated by blending technology/engineering and art. Generating Kando has always been our tradition, pride, and strength.
The world is changing significantly at an unprecedented speed. “ART” is made up of the initials of our three focus areas toward 2030: Advancing Robotics, Rethinking Solutions, and Transforming Mobility. Through these three fields of initiatives, we aim to expand human possibilities and create a better society and lifestyles.
For business results of fiscal year 2018, net sales increased thanks to the effect of sales increase such as in the marine products and, industrial machinery & robots. However, operating income declined as a decrease in the motorcycle business in the developed market and foreign exchange losses.
For the Medium-Term Management Plan 2016-2018, the targets (Net sales 2 trillion yen, operating income 180 billion yen) were not achieved. However, we accelerated our platform strategies in motorcycle business and cost reduction effect in each business, and it led to improve profitability and financial base.
For the new Medium-Term Management Plan from 2019 is positioned as the critical first three years to promote reforms as we work toward 2030.
While growth will be centered on our existing businesses, we will promote new business development as well as update our business infrastructure and management foundation, changing how we work moving toward 2030.
I ask for your continued guidance and support as we move forward together.
*Kando is a Japanese word for the simultaneous feeling of deep satisfaction and intense excitement that people experience when they encounter something of exceptional value.
