This was the third generation model of the YDS series of 2-stroke, 2-cylinder road sports bikes. With the “Autolube” separate oil supply system that revolutionized 2-stroke engine models, increased low- to mid-speed performance and a 3-way adjustable shock absorber, it achieved improved riding performance and handling in city areas and attracted many new fans internationally as a Japanese sport model.
*The tuning fork mark on the tank was changed to “YAMAHA” six months after the release.
