This model was the successor to the YDS-1 that became famous as a base machine for road races and scramble races. The engine was developed from the acclaimed 2-stroke, 2-cylinder engine of the YDS-1 to deliver an extra 3 hp. To further boost performance in sport riding, a twin-leading front drum brake with dust and water resistant designs and other features were adopted.
