(1970 / Production Model)
After making only 2-stroke models since its founding in 1955, Yamaha Motor introduced this model as its first to mount a 4-stroke engine. At a time when Japan was beginning to expand its system of expressways and there was a growing demand for larger, faster motorcycles worldwide, the development task of building a “lightweight, slim and compact big-displacement sports model” was achieved by mounting a vertical OHC twin cylinder engine with a slim design on an equally slim double cradle frame. This model won many fans who called it by the nickname "Peke-S."
