(2017 / Racing Machine)
This YZR-M1 built on the vastly altered machine from the 2016 season. As the rules for machine bodywork became stricter due to the increasingly fierce level of competition with winglet development among the manufacturers, Yamaha developed new fairings with downforce-generating mechanisms within the bodywork to raise aerodynamic performance. The team’s new rider Maverick Viñales scored three victories—including two consecutive wins right from the season opener—while Valentino Rossi took the win at the Dutch TT. Yamaha finished 2nd in the Constructor’s championship that year.
