This was Yamaha Motor's first 50cc GP factory machine and it was developed in line with new machine regulations introduced in 1969. Its liquid-cooled 2-stroke, single-cylinder engine with 6-speed transmission pumped out 17 hp and gave the machine a top speed of over 170 km/h. However, due to the withdrawal of Yamaha's factory teams from the World GP, this machine would never compete in a single race.
