Employing Yamaha-exclusive electronic control technology that places top priority on human sensibilities, this electrically power assisted bicycle matured and evolved to new levels. It mounted a newly developed highly efficient, compact, lightweight drive unit and a compact, lightweight high-performance nickel-metal hydride battery positioned closely together at the center of the bicycle. With the 2003 model that achieved a lighter, smoother ride, greater ease in wheeling the bicycle around, and a lighter, slimmer body as a base, changes were made to the 2004 model's reduction gear ratios and assist feeling, and a dress guard was added.
