In 1961, rode an RD48 in the Belgian GP and finished 6th after Fumio Ito. Second only to Fumio Ito in terms of GP points acquired as a Yamaha rider. Two years later, in 1963, came 4th in the Dutch GP riding an RD56, and in the 1963 Belgian GP where Yamaha achieved its first GP victory, came second after winner Ito in a one-two finish for Yamaha. In the initial period of Yamaha's GP participation, raced alongside Ito and Taneharu Noguchi in both the 125cc and 250cc classes.
