Born May 1969. Debuting in 1987 in 125cc road racing, Riba enjoyed a long racing career. On two occasions, he won the 600cc title in the Spanish national championships in 1993, and again in 1996. In 2001, he earned a ranking of 6th in the World Supersport Championship with Honda. In 2002, the Antena 3 Yamaha d'Antin Team was planning a race lineup of Norifumi Abe and Alex Criville, but shortly before the event, Criville pulled out and Riba was given a chance instead.
