Adopting an extruded aluminum frame

In order to accommodate a new engine with increased power output of 170PS, compared to 160PS the previous year, the 1993 model OWF2 adopted a new frame design using extruded aluminum pipe with three-section structure for the main frame. This provided much greater rigidity. W. Rainey rode this spec for the from the opening round of the '93 series to round seven, the Dutch GP, scoring wins in the Malaysia GP and the Japan GP. Due to difficulties in the rigidity-flexibility balance, however, he switched to an ROC frame based on the 0WC1 from round eight. He won six rounds in the season and contributed to Yamaha's eighth manufacturers title.
