YZR500(0W48)(1980)
First model with an aluminum frame
In order to lighten the body of the 0W48, lightweight, compact designs were adopted for the various chassis components, and part way through the season it became the first YZR500 ever to use an aluminum frame. The front and rear suspensions also adopted new technologies. The front brake was fitted with aluminum calipers, while the engine's YPVS was improved to increase power across the full rpm range and revisions to the cooling system improved reliability. In 1980, Kenny Roberts rode the 0W48 to an impressive three straight victories from the opening round. He went on to win his third consecutive GP500 title while also using the 0W48R at times depending on the race.
