YZR500(0W20)(1973-74)
Yamaha's first GP500 factory machine
This was the first YZR500 and it had been developed simultaneously with TZ750. It mounted a liquid-cooled 2-stroke, in-line 4-cylinder, piston reed valve engine on a chromium molybdenum steel pipe frame with triple disc brakes. J Saarinen rode it to a debut win the French GP, the opening round of the season. The next year, 1974, a Monocross suspension was added and Giacomo Agostini rode it to two GP wins and Teuvo Lansivuori to one, giving Yamaha the GP 500cc Manufacturer's title.
