Awards System to Recognize Exceptional Riders
Yamaha Rider Awards 2014 "The Spirit of Challenge"

SEPANG, February 4, 2014 - Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. (Tokyo: 7272) held the inaugural awards ceremony for its new Yamaha Rider Awards initiative in Sepang, Malaysia today. These Awards recognize the performance of Yamaha riders from all around the world who have achieved exceptional results in motor sports and in turn delivered excitement to many people.

Yamaha Motor intends for these Awards to become a new target and source of encouragement for Yamaha riders, and spur them on to continued growth. At the same time, we hope these honors will contribute to the spread of motor sports and growth in the number of motor sports fans.

These first Awards covered the Asia/ASEAN region, and were presented to five Yamaha riders for their excellent results in motor sports in their respective countries over the 2013 season.

Katsuyuki Nakasuga (Japan)
YAMAHA YSP Racing Team
Won a second consecutive JSB1000 class title in the All Japan Road Race Championship, the fourth one of his career
Made a dramatic comeback from an early-season injury to win the last four races in a row, thrilling many fans with his never-give-up attitude

Decha Kraisart (Thailand)
Yamaha Thailand Racing Team
Ranked 4th in the All Japan Road Race Championship’s J-GP2 class and was a wild card competitor in the Moto2 class
Through taking on the challenge of competing against the world’s best, he has inspired dreams and hopes in other ASEAN riders to also reach the world stage

Ahmad Afif Amran (Malaysia)
TEAM PETRONAS YAMAHA-CKJ
Won championship titles in Malaysia’s Cub Prix series and Super Series, and ranked 2nd in the Asia Road Racing Championship’s UB115 class
His talent has blossomed by challenging himself in a variety of displacement classes, and he has stepped up to regional level racing in Asia

Vingie Coloma (The Philippines)
YAMAHA RACING TEAM
Was crowned YAMAHA GP Champion and competed in the 10th YAMAHA ASEAN CUP RACE in 2013
He has progressed to become a top rider in the Philippines and has taken on the challenge of competing at a higher level in the ASEAN region

Sigit Purno Harjono (Indonesia)
Yamaha Yamalube TDR FDR NHK Yonk Jaya
Two-class champion of Indonesia’s premier motorcycle racing series "INDOPRIX"
Together with his team, he recaptured the championship and greatly contributed to the Yamaha brand image in Indonesia

The Yamaha Rider Awards "The Spirit of Challenge" is an award system established this year to recognize the performance of Yamaha riders who have performed exceptionally well and provided great excitement to the many fans at motor sport events held across the globe. We hope that this system will become a new target and source of encouragement for Yamaha riders, and spur them on to continued growth. At the same time, we aim for these awards to contribute to the spread of motor sports and growth in the number of motor sports fans around the world.
