Main Yamaha Race Teams for 2008

The 2008 program of Yamaha factory and support teams for international race activities has been finalized. Again this year, Yamaha will be involved in a variety of race activities internationally, ranging from motorcycle road racing and motocross to snowmobile racing and more.

International Racing

Competing for the title this year in road racing痴 premier MotoGP class will be four riders from two teams. The machine they will use is the YZR-M1. Racing for Yamaha痴 factory team, the FIAT YAMAHA TEAM, will be Valentino Rossi, who finished 2007 ranked 3rd for the season, and his new teammate Jorge Lorenzo, the GP250 champion in 2006 and 2007.
Yamaha will also be supporting the Tech3 Yamaha Team, whose riders will be the new pair of Colin Edwards, who rode last year for the FIAT YAMAHA TEAM, and James Toseland, who was last year痴 World Superbike champion. Toseland is competing full time in MotoGP this year for the first time.

In the World Superbike Championship (WSB), the pinnacle class of production machine racing, the Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team supported by Yamaha's group company Yamaha Motor Italia will enter Noriyuki Haga, who just missed winning last year's WSB title by two ranking points, and returning teammate Troy Corser.

Competing in the WSB as a Yamaha team is the France-based 典eam YZF Yamaha・with rider Shinich Nakatomi. This will be Nakatomi痴 third season in the WSB. Also, the experienced World Endurance team 添amaha GTM94・that won last year痴 Bol d丹r 24-hour endurance road race will be entering Sebastien Gimbert and David Checa in this season痴 WSB. All three teams will use race-modified versions of the YZF-R1.

In the Supersport World Championship (WSS), the Yamaha WSS Team will enter last season痴 2nd ranked Broc Parkes and the 2002 WSS champion Fabien Foret. He will race on the YZF-R6. In addition, the 鏑orenzini by Leoni Yamaha・team will enter last season痴 6th ranked Massimo Roccoli. Both teams will use the YZF-R6 that has undergone a full model change for this year.

In the AMA Road Racing Championships Yamaha Motor Corp. USA will be supporting four riders. In the Superbike class, Eric Bostrom and Jason DiSalvo will be competing on the YZF-R1 for the Yamaha Factory Road Racing Team. In the Supersport class, the Graves Motorsports Yamaha Team will enter Josh Herrin and Ben Bostrom riding the YZF-R6.

In the World Motocross Championships, Yamaha teams will be competing in the MX1 and MX2 classes. In the pinnacle MX1 class, the Yamaha Motocross Team will enter last season痴 3rd ranked Josh Coppins and his new teammate, David Philippaerts. They will race on the YZ450FM.
In the MX2 class, the Yamaha Red Bull De Carli Team will enter Antonio Cairoli, who won his second championship title in this class last season. Joining him as teammates and also competing on the YZ250F will be Matteo Bonini and Alessandro Lupino.

Also, in the this year痴 newly launched Women痴 World Motocross Championship, the 2006 and 2007 Women痴 Motocross World Cup champion, Katherine Prumm, will compete on the YZ250F from a paddock space shared with Team Yamaha Van Beers Racing.

In the AMA Supercross series that began on January 5 in the USA, the Yamaha Supercross/Motocross Team enters three young riders. In Supercross, last sason痴 AMA Motocross champion, Grant Langston, and Josh Hill, who moves up this season from the Lites class. Both will race on the YZ450F. Competing in the Lites class will be Broc Hepler on the YZ250F.

Entering its second season of AMA competition, the L&M Racing Supercross Team will be competing with the same team as last year. Its riders are the 2007 season痴 2nd ranked Chad Reed and Nathan Ramsey. Both riders will be racing on the YZ450F and competing only in Supercross.

The Yamaha Supercross/Motocross Team will also be competing with the same riders in the AMA National Motocross Championship (NMX) series that begins in May.

In the Enduro 1 class of the World Enduro Championships, the UFO Corse Yamaha team will enter Simone Albergoni, Cristobal Guerrrero and Maurizio Micheluz riding the WR250F. In the Enduro 2 class, the same team will enter Johnny Aubert and Fabrizio Dini riding the WR450F.

In snowmobile racing, Yamaha is again competing in the World Power Sports Snowmobile Tour (WPSA) like last year. Using a new 2008 model FX Nytro machine the Yamaha team is going for the title in this pinnacle snowmobile race competition while also working on machine development. Competing in Pro Open class of this series from the Yamaha MQ Racing team of Yamaha Motor Company is Yuji Nakazawa.

Also competing from the Yamaha Factory Snocross Team of Yamaha Motor Corp. USA is Steve Taylor in the Pro Open class and Cory Davis in the Semi-pro Open class.
