Born as a further development of the YD-1 and YD Racer that participated in the 2nd Asama Highlands Race, this new model mounted a 2-stroke, 2-cylinder 20 hp engine on a steel-pipe cradle frame with features including the first Japanese-made 5-speed transmission and a combination type instrument panel with engine tachometer. As a high-performance sports model that could be outfitted with an abundant offering of race kit parts, it became a leading performer in a variety of categories of both on- and off-road competition.
