This trail model featured a powerful 4-stroke 250cc single-cylinder engine with linear power-development characteristics mounted on a diamond type frame. The rear's Yamaha-exclusive Monocross suspension helped achieve a light body weight of 114 kg. It became popular as a “super trail” model well suited for a wide range of off-road use, from dirt and woods riding to enduro racing.
