(1983 / Production Model)
This was the successor to the RZ250 model that did so much to stimulate the road-going 2-stroke sport bike market. Its newly developed in-line 2-cylinder engine was the first to feature the Yamaha Power Valve System (YPVS) variable exhaust valve device on a production model, and adopted capacitor discharge ignition (CDI) with electronic spark advance to help provide both class-leading power (43 PS) and good fuel efficiency. Also, its chassis sported a racer-like wide double cradle frame, a front fork with variable damping, a new linked type Monocross rear suspension and more, giving this model both excellent handling and styling that embodied the Yamaha racing spirit.
