This was Yamaha Motor's first 125cc 2-cylinder sports model. It employed Yamaha's first 5-port (jet port) engine that added two auxiliary scavenging ports to the previous 3-port (intake, scavenging, exhaust) system to improve exhaust efficiency. It was also equipped with twin carburetors, the "Autolube" separate oil supply system and a return type 5-speed transmission for outstanding running performance. There were also standard models suitable for business-use and scrambler models with high-mount mufflers available.
