Born December 1961. In 1983, took the World GP500 title (Honda), and in 1985 took both the GP250 and GP500 titles (Honda). Subsequently injured and in 1988 announced his retirement from racing, but in 1989 joined the Marlboro Yamaha Team and resumed racing. That year, rode a YZR500 but ranked no higher than 16th. In 1993, entered the GP500 with Yamaha Motor France, but performed less than illustriously and ended with two points.
