Born September 1970. In 1994 joined Marlboro Team Roberts Yamaha and rode the YZR500 with teammate Luca Cadalora. However, missed the second half of the series because of an injury in the French GP and his place on the YZR500 was taken by Norifumi Abe. Beattie ended up with no points in nine out of 14 of those races and finished with a ranking of 13th. Although Australian, he was keen on racing in Japan, and in 1992 won the All Japan Road Race Championship in the 500cc class (Honda). After that, rode with Honda in the GP500. Rode a Yamaha machines in 1994, but subsequently rode Suzuki in the GP500.
