Contributing to Yamaha's 9th Manufacturer's title

This model was a further evolution of the 1999 OWK1. Improvements to performance-related components, including new specs for the cylinder, cylinder head and exhaust pipe and revision of the engine management system, boosted acceleration performance and top speed. Review of the dimensions and geometry also led to a new cowl shape. With G. McCoy's three wins, Biaggi's two and Abe's repeat win at the Japan GP, this machine brought Yamaha its 9th GP500 Manufacturers championship after a seven-year hiatus.
