Yamaha Motor Launches All-New YZF-R2 Supersport Model in India - New R-Series model pursuing even higher performance with new 200cc engine and lightweight design -

IWATA, September 4, 2026 - Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. (Tokyo: 7272) announced today that it has developed the new YZF-R2 supersport model, powered by a newly developed 200cc engine and slated to reach Indian dealership floors for sale in mid-September 2026 as a 2027 model.
The R2 is one of Yamaha Motor's high value-added models developed in line with its premium segment strategy for ASEAN and other emerging markets per its current Medium-Term Management Plan. The R2's product concept was "Concentrated Supersport Riding" and the bike sits positioned above the YZF-R15, which already has a solid reputation in the Indian market. The new model was created to distill into a 200cc class package the same kind of high performance feel and easy-to-ride character as the YZF-R1 and YZF-R9, offering users the unique and genuine joy that comes with riding a Yamaha supersport bike. The newly designed 200cc engine, lightweight chassis, and electronic control technologies deliver powerful acceleration and agile handling, while the exterior design carries on the R-Series' distinctive styling, with the slim and compact bodywork visually conveying lightness and high performance.
Three versions will be available to meet a wide range of customer needs, from daily use to track days, putting forward a new dimension of R-Series fun for new motorcyclists as well as for those stepping into the world of serious supersport riding. Production will be carried out by India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd. in India.
