Third time “Winner” for Yamaha Motor in “German Design Award 2020” International Design Competition, — In succession from 2017, and 2018
November 25, 2019
IWATA, November 25, 2019—IWATA, November 25, 2019—Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. (Tokyo: 7272) announced today that its electric scooter EC-05 has been given the title “Winner” in the Excellent Product Design category of the “German Design Award 2020”, the country's prestigious design award.
The EC-05 is an electric scooter developed in collaboration with Gogoro Inc. (head office: Taoyuan City, Taiwan; CEO: Horace Luke). Based on Yamaha Motor’s development philosophy, EC-05 design creates a beautiful sense of unity between the rider and machine. The power of the motor is transmitted to the rear wheel, visualizing the function of driving the bike forward as it launches itself from the ground. By making a character line from a high position on the body, it shows off the bikes lightness and high maneuverability. Additionally, out of the four-color types available, the body color “Isolate Blue” has been specially developed for this model. The mysterious blue makes you feel a new experience created by the EC-05.
In the German Design Award, the German Design Council recommends products from around the world which have already been evaluated as of a high design standard. Only after receiving that recommendation can an application be made for this internationally prestigious design award.
Being presented with the “Winner” award is the third time for Yamaha Motor following the success of the 2017 super-sports model “YZF-R1”, and the 2018 motorcycle “XSR900” and sports boat “242Limited S.”
