Yamaha Motor to Establish New Company employing Persons with Disabilities

IWATA, July 1, 2015 – Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. (Tokyo: 7272) announced today that they will establish a new company, Yamaha Motor MIRAI Co., LTD. on October 1, 2015, aimed at promoting social independence and providing a place where those with disabilities can participate actively according to their capacity.

To date, the company has arranged its work environment to employ persons with disabilities in a variety of occupations under the stance of enabling persons with and without disabilities to work side by side.

The new company will help to support social independence by developing each employee’s abilities, and will work to boost employment by providing a workplace where even greater numbers of persons with mental and other disabilities can express their individual potential.

Operation of the new company is scheduled to begin in April 2016, and will commence with parts packaging and facility cleaning work, followed by gradual expansion into other types of work.

After launch, the new company intends to apply for certification as a "special subsidiary company"* based on the "Act on Employment Promotion etc. of Persons with Disabilities".


*Special subsidiary company system:
Under the special subsidiary system, if an enterprise forms a subsidiary that gives special consideration to employees in order to promote and stabilize the employment of persons with disabilities, and with the condition that the subsidiary is certified by the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare as satisfying certain requirements, those who are employed at the subsidiary are deemed to be employed at the parent company and by the group as a whole.
