Announcement of Organizational Reforms and Personnel Changes

IWATA, December 26, 2013 - Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd (Tokyo: 7272) announced at today’s Board of Directors Meeting, Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. resolved to implement the following organizational reforms and personnel changes, effective Wednesday, January 01, 2014.

Organizational changes (effective Wednesday, January 01, 2014)

The following organizational reforms will be implemented in order to: promote Platform (PF) development for accelerating the manufacture of attractive products, speed-up new business deployment, and promote customer-oriented after-sales activities.


1. Organization restructuring with the objective of launching attractive products onto the market in shorter time frames

 (1)Newly Created Engine Unit & PF Model Unit
The newly built Engine Unit & PF Model Unit designed to further accelerate PF strategies, will raise responsiveness and flexibility, and consolidate the development functions and cost innovation of the Technology Center, Manufacturing Center, Procurement Center, and Motorcycle Business Operations which have until now worked independent of each other.

Engine Unit
・The Engine Unit will comprise of the Engine Development Section, Component Section, and Planning Division.
・The Engine Development Section will consolidate the engine development functions of the Motorcycle Business Operations, and the advanced development functions of the Technology Center, and will supervise the independently based engine design divisions of the large and small models in the product categories, and testing & advanced development divisions. The four divisions to come under this umbrella include the Advanced Development Division, 1st Engine Development Division, 2nd Engine Development Division, and the Engine Testing Division.
・The Component Section will supervise technical divisions in order for the development of units that construct engines, as well as manufacturing technology, and material technology to realize production. The five divisions to come under this umbrella include the Unit Engineering Division, Manufacturing Technology Division, Materials Division, Machinery Engineering Division, and the Machinery Innovation Engineering Division.
・For the Planning Division, engine management functions and manufacturing technology planning functions will be transferred from the Technology Center, and management of engine long term strategies, manufacturing technology strategy planning, and engine development planning will be carried out here.

PF Model Unit
・The PF Model Unit will comprise of the PF Model Development Section, Component Section, and the PF Planning Division.
・PF Model Development Section will supervise design divisions independently operated for each product category, and also divisions involved in testing, cost innovation, and advanced development of next generation PF's. The eight divisions to come under this umbrella include the Advanced Development Division, SC Development Division, ST Development Division, SP Development Division, CR Development Division, LMW Development Division, Motorcycle Testing Division, and the Cost Innovation Division.
・The Component Section will supervise technical divisions in order for the development of units that construct models, as well as manufacturing technology, and mold technology to realize production. The five divisions to come under this umbrella include the Unit Engineering Division, Electronics System Development Division, Manufacturing Technology Division, Mold Technology Division, and the Prototype Technology Division.
・The Planning Division will carry out long term strategy planning for PF models, management of model development planning designed for PF models, and cost down implementation.

(2)Procurement Center Restructuring
The main functions of the Procurement Center will be reviewed in terms of structure and functionality in order to consolidate procurement operations and business across the board in line with planning and promotion of global procurement policies & strategies.

・The Cost Innovation Section in this division will be dissolved with cost innovation functions being transferred to the Engine Unit and PF Model Unit sections.
・Along with dissolving the Cost Innovation Section, the Procurement Section will also be dissolved, and all divisions involved with procurement will be the under direct control of the Procurement Center.
・The Procurement Center will be comprised of the Procurement Planning Division, Global Supplier Network Promotion Division, Procurement Promotion Division, and the Procurement Quality Control Division.
・The Global Supplier Network Promotion Division will be newly created with the aim of strengthening the network with global suppliers in order to improve product competitiveness across the entire business. The parts strategy function of the Procurement Planning Division and the global raw material procurement function of the Global Procurement Promotion Division will be transferred.



2. Organizational Reforms with the objective of speeding-up new business & new technology deployment

(1)Newly Created New Venture Business Development Section
Based on the business development policy across the entire company, this division has been created in order to speed up the deployment of new business, and to strengthen strategic planning functionality. This division will pave the way for business creation through searching, planning, and initiating new business.

(2)Technology Center Restructuring
The main functions of the Technology Center will be reviewed in terms of structure and functionality in order to consolidate new technology creation, Motor-Sports, and fundamental technology infrastructure.

・The Manufacturing Technology Section and the Advanced Development Section will be dissolved, with the functions of manufacturing technology & advanced development being transferred to the Engine Unit and PF Model Unit sections.
・The Technology Center will be comprised of the Research & Development Section, Technology Planning Section, Motor Sports Strategy Division, Motor Sports Development Division, and the NCV Development Division.
・The Research & Development Section will formulate research development strategies, as well as supervise and promote advanced technology development, fundamental technology development, and business technology support. The two divisions to come under this umbrella include the Fundamental Technology Research Division, and the Advanced Technology Research Division.
・The Technology Planning Section will carry out integration and planning across the entire company strategies, and while managing this work, it will also supervise and promote fundamental development & technology infrastructure maintenance. The two divisions to come under this umbrella include the Engineering Management Division and the Digital Engineering Division.
・The NCV Development Division will be newly created, the small 4-wheel drive development team within the Innovation Development Division will be transferred, and preparations for the transition to business creation from product development will be carried out.



3. Consolidation of functionality with the objective of promoting customer-oriented after-sales activities

 (1)Newly Created CS Center
In order to offer the customer even greater "Yamaha Quality" and customer service, the newly created CS Center will join with the Product Warranties, Service, Parts, and Safety Promotion Divisions to promote customer-oriented activities.

・The functions of the Product Warranties & Safety Promotion Center, and the Parts Business Unit will be restructured and integrated with the functions of the CS Center.
・The Service Division of the Quality Assurance Section of the MC Business Department will be transferred to the CS Center.
・The CS Center is to be made up of the Corporate Quality Assurance Division, CS Planning Division, After-Sales Section, and the Spare Parts Sections.
・The Corporate Quality Assurance Division will promote with a view across the entire business of a customer-oriented quality assurance.
・The CS Planning Division is to oversee the overall planning and management functions of the CS Center.
・The After Sales Section is to supervise the overall after sales functions. The three divisions to come under this umbrella include the Marketing Division, Service Division, and the Technical Publication Division.
・The Spare Parts Section will oversee the general functions of accessory development, and Parts SCM. The four divisions to come under this umbrella include the Domestic Administration Division, Accessory Division, Parts & Acc. Engineering Division, and the SCM Division.
