Regarding leakage of customer information from group company

November 23, 2011

On November 22, Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. confirmed the leakage of a portion of the customer information under the management of one of our group companies.

A leaked total of 607 customer information accounts regarding motorcycles for recall and improvement measures* from domestic group company Yamaha Motorcycle Sales Japan Co., Ltd. were confirmed. The information leaked contained names, postal codes, addresses, vehicle names, vehicle identification numbers, and dealership names from customers living in the three prefectures of Aichi, Fukuoka and Kagoshima.

On November 11, a fax of information was received from an anonymous third party and the possibility of a leak was suspected and investigated, but did not lead to solid confirmation. In the midst of such a situation, on November 22, information regarding a leak was received from a different third party and subsequently confirmed. We are currently investigating the details regarding the root and process of the leak.

We offer our sincerest apologies and will be contacting the customers involved.

Yamaha Motor is meticulous in the protection and handling of all of our customers' personal information. We offer our deepest apologies to our customers and all involved parties for this situation.

We have no reports of any damage or unauthorized use of customer information at this time.
