About the Yamaha Booth

As with the 37th and 39th shows, the Yamaha booth concept for the 40th Tokyo Motor Show is "The Art of Engineering." In a more radical design than ever before, the booth seeks to express the true essence of Yamaha by presenting the entire booth as a "Yamaha Museum" and displaying models as works of art that are the realizations of Yamaha's corporate principle: to be a company that creates Kando*. In this way we hope to express the possibilities and the beauties of the motorcycle as a vehicle and the enjoyment it can bring. The "art" we wish to express is steeped in the Yamaha philosophy that the surprises, excitement and new discoveries a motorcycle can bring are not to be found merely in performance specs. And, in order to allow visitors to fully appreciate these works of "art," the booth is designed so that most of the models on display can be looked at from all angles.
The booth is also designed to present the conceptual art of Yamaha motorcycle design and engineering by presenting our definitive design ideals of (1) "GENESIS," the engineering ideal that sees the engine, the chassis and the other main components of a motorcycle not as individual mechanisms but as integrated parts of a single whole, (2) the "G.E.N.I.C.H." ideal that pursues the active adoption of the latest electronic control technologies in ways that achieve ever higher levels of "rider-machine communication" based on human perceptions, and (3) "Smart Power," the concept of achieving both customer excitement and eco-friendliness with new power sources capable of creating exciting new riding experiences. We hope to also express the ideal of "Functional Beauty" in Yamaha motorcycles where performance is expressed directly in the sculpted forms of the motorcycle's components in a high-level fusion of function and beauty.

*Kando is a Japanese word for the simultaneous feeling of deep satisfaction and intense excitement that people experience when they encounter something of exceptional value.

Highlights of the Yamaha Booth

Right beside the entrance to the Yamaha booth visitors will find the MotoGP race machine "YZR-M1" used in the 2007 season and the supersport model "YZF-R1" that brings together so many of Yamaha's state-of-the-art technologies.
Entering the booth farther, you come to the "WR250X SPECIAL" with its mysterious air, the "YZF-R6" featuring the first magnesium rear frame ever on a production model and other advanced technologies, the stylish "BW'S CONCEPT" model with its off-road taste, the "XT660Z" Tenere which takes its name from famous Dakar Rally machine, the "XS-V1 Sakura," which stands as a symbol of Yamaha Motor's corporate philosophy, and the "RAIDER S" with its awesome presence. All of these are models that propose different types of premium motorcycling life.
Farther back, visitors will see a display object "VMAX" created on the theme of "Awakens" and having the appearance of a VMAX about to be born out of the mold of rider-machine communication.
This brings the visitor to the main stage where models including the "MT-0S" and "FZ1 Fazer" exemplify Yamaha's real visions of the excitement offered by ultimate hobby bikes for the mature adult. You will also see the "TMAX" and "MAJESTY SPECIAL," as Yamaha's proud entries in the automatic transmission bike category.
Facing these models embodying Yamaha "Excitement" are examples of models that incorporate Yamaha's innovative "Smart Power" technology. They include the crossbred 4-wheeled hybrid model "Tesseract," powered by a combination of a liquid-cooled V-twin motorcycle engine and an electric motor, the compact electric commuter models "BOBBY" and "C3+," the fuel cell motorcycles "FC-AQEL" that runs on compressed hydrogen fuel and the "FC-Dii" that runs on methanol fuel. Then there is the hybrid model "LUXAIR" powered by a combination of a gasoline engine and electric motor. All of these models define Yamaha as the pioneer of electric power technologies for motorcycles.
Each of the models on display is accompanied by a video monitor where its features and technologies are introduced with easy to understand explanations. There is also a Technology Zone where visitors will see introductions to unique Yamaha design and engineering ideals "GENESIS" and "G.E.N.I.C.H." with which we seek to build motorcycle that appeal directly to the human senses, and the "Smart Power" concept that is another aspect of these technological ideals that define Yamaha's Art of Engineering, with which we strive to achieve ever higher levels of rider-machine communication.
