From October 23rd to November 3rd, at the 33rd Tokyo Motor Show (Organizer: Japan Motor Industrial Federation, Inc., Place: Makuhari Messe), Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. will display motorcycles including the special exhibition models, PAS bicycles and other electric vehicles (EVs) in its booth under the theme "Your Possibilities Awaken."
With the above theme, the Yamaha Booth introduces the technological ideal of "Man - Machine Sensuality," which means "technology that touches the heart of the rider."
First of all, on the central main stage you will find the concept model "MT-01" developed around the concept of a harmonization of the engine sound and the beating of the rider's heart.
The staging of the three corners surrounding this main stage adopts the three themes of "Exciting," "Cool" and "Discover" respectively. In the "Exciting" zone, which expresses the performance that exceeds the rider's expectations and the joy of operating a machine of that quality, you will see the YZF-R1 and the other supersport models. In the "Cool" zone, which explores the theme of that special exhilaration that lies in a dimension beyond performance, you will see the "V-STAR Eleven Classic" and other American models. In the "Discover" zone, where the theme is the feeling of discovery that comes from encountering a completely new type of vehicle such as you have never imagined, you will find the new "Majesty" and other scooters and the growing line of PAS electro-hybrid bicycles.
Going on to the "Eco" zone you will find introduced models like the "PAS Royal" adopting Yamaha's new environment-friendly energy management technology called Intelligent & Flexible Energy System (IFES), the "ECCY" electric scooter and an entirely new concept model called the "Hybrid Commuter" that combines the best aspects of electric power and internal combustion engine power.

Yamaha's Special Exhibition Models on display at the 33rd Tokyo Motor Show |
MT-01 (Special exhibition model) |
This concept model proposes a new type of motorcycle conceived around the key word "Soul." The developmental concept is "Pulse." Its design is the product of an exhaustive exploration of all the aspects of "pulse" experienced by the rider and the motorcycle: not only the engine pulse produced directly by the explosive force of combustion, the rhythm of the torque fluctuation and even the exhaust sound and the beating of the rider's heart. The aim is technology that touches the rider's heart.

YZF-R1 (Special exhibition model) |
Two years have passed since the YZF-R1 established a new standard in supersport performance with the adoption of such GP race technology and as a long rear arm design chassis. Now, this YZF-R1 that is the center of attention for supersport fans worldwide reappears as a more highly evolved machine. Maintaining the original concept of "fastest of twisty roads," further improvements to the engine and chassis have brought further machine maturation. These changes result in improved drivability, further weight reduction and improved aerodynamics due to revisions in exterior parts. The new engine revised to meet "Euro1" emissions standards also features magnesium alloy on the various exterior cover parts and a titanium muffler for additional weight reduction.

XJR1300 (Special exhibition model) |
Developed under the theme of "The Perfect XJR," this model represents a further evolution of the air-cooled naked model XJR1300 with its torque-y engine character that only big displacement can provide, lively handling and impressive design. Significant improvements have been made in the handling and drivability along with refinements to the exterior. Yamaha's weight-reducing technology has been put to use in such areas as the wheels and brakes. In particular the reduction in unsprung weight has produced greater handling agility. A chassis weight reduction totaling a full 8 kilograms compared to the existing model and an optimum balance of chassis rigidity and strength takes running preformance to a new dimension.

V-STAR Eleven Classic (Export spec) |
Taking the Drag Star 1100 (DS11) as its base, this model represents an embodiment of the concept of "a classic cruiser." This classic version is built to provide unsurpassed pride of ownership and a distinctive riding experience. With features like a saddle-shaped seat, deep fenders, see-saw type shift pedal and foot board, large headlight, front fork cover and wide front tire, Yamaha presents its idea of a highly individualized American-style bike. |
Drag Star 250 (Special exhibition model) |
With the "Long & Low" Drag Star series concept intact, this model brings a real American style motorcycle to the 250cc class. The air-cooled V-twin engine is a masterpiece of simplicity and functional beauty that also boasts state-of-the-art technology like a TPS carburetor for outstanding response. This power unit is mounted on a newly developed frame that completes the perfect marriage of real American style design with the everyday convenience of a 250cc bike.

Electric Scooter "ECCY" (Special exhibition model) |
This model has been developed as an electric scooter that embodies all the advantages of a compact, lightweight two-wheeled vehicle by making use of technologies gained from the development of Yamaha's electro-hybrid PAS bicycles, such as an energy-intense battery, highly efficient small-sized motor and our unique control technologies that bring out their potential to the fullest. It achieves riding performance approaching that of an internal combustion engine-powered scooter. The adoption of the IFES (Intelligent & Flexible Energy System) also makes this scooter compatible with the "Park & Charge" (public electric vehicle charging stations) concept.
Hybrid Commuter (Special exhibition model) |
This is a clean-running vehicle powered by an electric motor. It mounts a super-small, low fuel consumption 4-stroke internal combustion engine exclusively for the generation of electricity to run the electric motor while the vehicle is moving. Thus, it is a "hybrid commuter" that combines the people-friendly advantages of clean electric power, the output of which can be easily controlled to suit human sensibilities, with the advantages of gasoline engine power, such as long continuous running capacity and ease of energy replenishment. |
