A New Challenge in Electric Technology (3)

Pursuing fun and usability for riders: BEV

*Available in Japanese only.

The pursuit of fun is the traditional approach that
all Yamaha Motorcycle development is based on.

The technologies accumulated through that pursuit are likely to
become driving forces for expanding human possibilities.

Such as how it feels like every cell in your body
is stirred awake when in a hyper EV.
This is one way our Long-Term Vision of
“ART for Human Possibilities: Let’s strive for greater happiness” takes form.

This is the third in our series of Yamaha-style EVs,
a battery electric vehicle envisioned as a supersport bike.

Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV)

The PROTO BEV is an electric motorcycle that runs by using the electricity from its onboard battery—charged from an external source—to power its motor.

Development Concept

Create an accessible EV supersport bike that delivers an all-new riding character and feel, and enables anyone to easily experience and enjoy the powerful performance of electric vehicles.

Refining Rider-Centric Hardware and Electronics

To create a BEV on which riders can really feel the fun factor, we are conducting R&D that prioritizes four elements. The first and foremost is light weight and compactness. Next is pursuing Yamaha’s signature handling stability by leveraging the knowhow and technologies we accrued with vehicles using internal combustion engines in order to design the battery’s shape and optimize the layout of the various components. Third is delivering powerful acceleration while keeping the torque seamless and easy to handle. Last is a simple and easy-to-understand Human–Machine Interface (HMI) that helps riders concentrate when turning laps out on the track.
