MWC-4
Introducing the MWC-4, a compact four-wheeled vehicle able to lean thanks to Yamaha’s LMW technology.
Feeling the wind flowing over your helmet and face shield, or the thrill of being one with the machine as you lean through corners are sensations inherent to motorcycling, but Yamaha wants to create forms of mobility bringing such experiences to more and more people.
The “MWC-4” is a compact four-wheeled vehicle that is able to offer the feeling of stability from having four wheels, but with a motorcycle’s unique fun and appeal of being one with your machine, resulting in an enticing new feel thanks to Yamaha’s exclusive Leaning Multi-Wheel (LMW) * technology.
*LMW is Yamaha’s designation for vehicles with three or more wheels that can lean like a motorcycle through turns.
The MWC-4 team sought an artistic design that draws inspiration from motorcycles as well as musical instruments to bring users the distinct joy and affection that comes from owning a vehicle for personal mobility. At the same time, various elements like the metal frame surrounding the rider and passenger and the free and unobstructed feel of the semi-open cabin—entered from the left side like getting on a motorcycle—express the world of motorcycling true to the unique style of Yamaha.
For the materials and colors used for the finer details, there was great attention paid toward creating an authentic overall CMFG (Color, Material, Finish and Graphics) design. For the exterior, the elegant form of the rose-gold body surfaces coordinates beautifully with the metallic materials of the frame to create the machine’s look and feel of refined quality. Also, the different colors used for the two aged leather and buckskin seats—Bordeaux wine color for the rider and white for the passenger—communicate the message from the machine that, “You are always the star whenever you ride.”
Also, while the metal of the frame and mechanical parts gives off a colder material feel, this is used to good effect by contrasting it with the warmth of the wood employed for the interior’s sides and floor. This and other delicately nuanced but contrasting combinations of different material qualities is another way the MWC-4 charms its occupants. In detail touches like these are Yamaha’s ideal of creating Kando through harmonious relationships between people and products, riders and machines.
