MOTOROiD:Λ

The MOTOROiD project was launched to explore new possibilities for human–machine relationships. In 2017, the first proof-of-concept MOTOROiD prototype was unveiled, capable of standing up on its own and autonomously interacting with its rider. This was followed in 2023 by the MOTOROiD2, which showed that both the rider and machine could respond to each other like partners. And this year’s MOTOROiD:Λ is capable of learning and evolving autonomously through reinforcement learning. The system trains in virtual environments and then applies its skills in the real world using Sim2Real techniques. By giving the machine a degree of independent decision-making, MOTOROiD:Λ represents another step toward a new relationship in which it can grow alongside its user. The model’s main features include optimized, organic movements generated through AI-based learning and a lightweight, durable exoskeleton engineered to withstand the trial-and-error impacts of the learning process. By venturing into the uncharted field of mobility mixed with reinforcement learning for motion control, MOTOROiD:Λ aims to redefine the world of two-wheeled vehicles and pioneer an entirely new future.

TRICERA proto

This three-wheel, open-top electric autocycle explores a new kind of driving pleasure. The TRICERA proto is a working prototype using a three-wheel steering system (3WS) that delivers both stimulating cornering performance and a new steering sensation—one that makes learning to master it enjoyable in itself. Focusing on the quick cornering response and mid-corner driver connection typical of all-wheel steering vehicles, the turning control system has been tuned with a human research perspective to maximize driver fun and achieve a new level of driver–machine unity. The TRICERA proto also features our αlive AD sound control device, which tweaks and tunes the electric motor’s sound to amplify the excitement and further draw the driver into the experience. Visually, the arching silhouette of the center frame emphasizes its three-wheeled structure, while the contrast between the “human space” and “functional space” gives the exterior a strikingly innovative design.

PROTO BEV

This is a working prototype created around the idea of “fun that can only be experienced with a large-capacity battery EV.” To maximize that fun, light weight and compactness were prioritized, resulting in an easy-to-use EV supersport bike with a new riding character and feel. It combines Yamaha Motor’s renowned handling stability—honed on conventional internal combustion engine models—with a battery EV’s signature linear throttle response and smooth, powerful acceleration. Furthermore, the human–machine interface is aimed squarely at helping the user focus on riding on the track, featuring simple controls grouped at the fingertips and an instrument display visualizer and sound device that communicate the bike’s status both visually and audibly.

H2 Buddy Porter Concept

Hydrogen engines are one of several options for achieving carbon neutrality. With the aim of eventually bringing hydrogen-engine motorcycles to public roads, the H2 Buddy Porter Concept is being jointly developed with Toyota Motor Corporation, which created a new compact, high-pressure hydrogen tank suitable for motorcycles and scooters, and certified by the relevant regulatory bodies. Yamaha Motor was primarily responsible for developing the hydrogen engine, chassis, and other components. On a full tank, the H2 Buddy Porter Concept boasts a measured cruising range of over 100 km. The model also takes into account the various technical requirements for public road use—based on existing regulations—and complies with Euro 5 emissions standards, including those for NOx.
