A crankcase reed intake valve was newly adopted on this model's V4 engine. With further maturation of the chassis and unsprung components, including adoption of an aluminum Deltabox frame and a bottom-link Monocross rear suspension, Eddie Lawson rode this machine to a win in the opening round of the 1984 season and went on to claim the Rider championship title. The model on display powered Tadahiko Taira to his second consecutive title in the All Japan Road Race Championship as well.
