Born: 1-Nov-59
Born November 1959. Notched up 13 GP500 wins, four of which were achieved on a Yamaha YZR500. Began riding motorcycles at the age of 12 and became passionate about dirt track racing. Continually raced and won against older riders while still too small to properly reach the pegs. At age 14, signed up with Yamaha International Corporation (YIC), Yamaha Motor's sales company in the United States). At around that time, debuted in road racing on a TA125 production racer.
After turning 16, gained experience in overseas racing, and in 1979 entered his first World GP on a Bimota-Yamaha. In the first half of the season, rode in the 250cc class and achieved a ranking of 4th. In the second half, he rode a Suzuki and was ranked 8th in the 500cc class. After that, he rode in various World GP500 events as a factory rider for Suzuki and Honda, consistently ranking near the top. In 1986 he returned to Yamaha and joined Team Roberts, achieving one win and a ranking of 3rd. In 1987 he increased this to three wins and was ranked 2nd after Wayne Gardner (Honda), but the following year he left Yamaha to join Cagiva. In 1992, he once again rode a Yamaha YZR500, this time in his own team, and wound up his final season with a ranking of 10th.
