Born May 1963. In 1993 rode the YZR500 with teammate Wayne Rainey, and in 1994 and 1995 was Yamaha Team's ace on the YZR500. Notched up six wins in those three years. Won the 125cc title in the 1982 Italian Junior Championship, and debuted in the 1984 World GP after racing in the 1983 European Championship. After taking the 1986 GP125 title (Garelli), from 1987 to 1990 rode a YZR250 in the GP250 with the Yamaha Agostini Team. Achieved his first 250cc class win in the 1988 GP250, and in 1990 notched up three wins and achieved a ranking of 3rd. In 1991 and 1992, joined the Honda team and achieved consecutive titles in the GP250.
From 1993, returned to the Yamaha Team, which was led by Kenny Roberts. Competed in the 500cc class for the first time and ranked 5th. In 1994 after Wayne Rainey retired, ranked 2nd, and in 1995, placed 3rd. After that, frequently changed teams, shifting among Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, MuZ and Modenas. Finally retired from GP in 2000.
