YZR500(0WL9)(2002)
The 28th and last YZR500
The OWL9 that appeared in 2002 represented the 28th and last generation model of the YZR500 models that had competed in GP races since the first 0W20 of 1973. The engine position was moved slightly forward compared to the OWL6 of the previous year. The center of gravity was also raised slightly in order to secure the desired front weight distribution. The weight of the rear arm was reduced through full-fledged thinning efforts. In this season that had 2-stroke and 4-stroke machines competing together, the great competitive potential of the YZR500 was proven once again when O. Jacque won the pole position at the German GP on this machine and Abe finished the season ranked 6th on it (even when calculating the points won with the YZR-M1).
