Yamaha Motor Launches Next-Generation High-Speed Dispenser YRM-D - Achieving both compactness and industry-leading dispensing performance with ease of use -

October 23, 2024

IWATA, October 23, 2024 - Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. (Tokyo:7272) announced today that it will launch the new high-speed dispenser YRM-D on December 1st, achieving industry-leading dispensing performance while being easy to handle and compact, considering area productivity.

The YRM-D has been developed as a dispenser for the next-generation platform YR series, embodying the concept of an "intelligent factory". By adopting the high-rigidity framework and high-accuracy head of the YR series, the new unit achieves steady high-speed, high-accuracy dispensing at 0.07 seconds per shot and ±0.05mm dispensing accuracy with a Cpk≧1.0. Additionally, the syringe adapter has been revamped, making it compatible with various syringe sizes using one adapter assembly and two types of joint nozzles. The front cover can also be opened for better access inside the machine, enhancing convenience. Furthermore, the dispense head can be selected from 2 head (standard) or 3 head (optional) to match the production format, and in all cases, it supports PCB up to a maximum size of L510mm x W460mm, with enhanced conveyor capabilities.

High-Speed Dispenser YRM-D

Market Background and Product Outline
The dispenser in the electronic component mounting process is a machine that applies adhesives for temporarily fixing components to PCB. It is used in processes such as double-sided mounting, where components are already mounted on the back side to prevent them from falling off, and in mounting processes that do not use solder printing. There is a growing demand for these dispensers to support high-density mounting. In addition to adhesive application, the dispenser is also used for tasks such as additional solder applications on large PCBs in mixed mounting processes that involve both ultra-small chips and large components, as well as soldering on the electrode parts of three-dimensional shaped boards, where solder printing is difficult.
Recently, due to labor shortages and rising personnel costs, factory automation is being promoted through the introduction of robotics, AI, and IoT. This is aimed at improving productivity and equipment operating rates while simultaneously advancing labor-saving and skill-less operations.

In response to increasingly sophisticated and diverse market demands, as well as higher productivity requirements, the Company has developed the high-speed dispenser YRM-D, which achieves industry-leading dispensing performance while being easy to handle and taking area productivity into consideration.

With Yamaha Motor's unique concept of a 1 STOP SMART SOLUTION, the Company is the industry's leading manufacturer of a full lineup of essential equipment for SMT (Surface Mount Technology) production lines, including surface mounting machines, solder paste printers and inspection system. By leveraging this strength, the Company is promoting the Intelligent Factory, a smart system that comprehensively improves the efficiency of the mounting process through smooth and advanced inter-equipment coordination without black boxes in equipment within the mounting line.

Main YRM-D Features
1) Achieves high-speed, high-accuracy, and stable dispensing for high-density mounting
While maintaining the compact machine size with a depth of 1,254mm, the same as the previous model YSD, the YR series next-generation platform, embodying the concept of an intelligent factory, has been adopted. By incorporating a high-rigidity framework, a high-accuracy dispense head, a heater unit capable of high precision temperature control, and laser irradiation to detect the height and curvature of the board, enabling high precision non-contact dispensing, it achieves stable high-speed, high-accuracy dispensing at 0.07 seconds per shot and ±0.05mm accuracy with a Cpk≧1.0.
Additionally, with the YR series common machine control system and the application software that combines both high speed and robustness, seamless and efficient integration with peripheral systems and software can be achieved reliably and without waste.

2) Improved usability through the revamping of the syringe adapter and the adoption of anopenable front cover
The syringe adapter has been revamped, making it compatible with various syringe sizes and dispensing patterns, ranging from 5 to 30cc, using one type of adapter assembly and two types of joint nozzles. The process of replacing and storing adapters has been streamlined to minimize effort.

Furthermore, the dispense head can be selected from either 2-head (standard) or 3-head (optional), depending on the production type, and it supports large PCB up to L510mm x W460mm in all configurations.
Additionally, the front cover can be opened, improving access inside the machine. The new next-generation design of the Graphical User Interface (GUI) combines visibility and usability, allowing for intuitive operation.

3) Support for labor-saving initiatives
The system automatically converts CAD data into dispensing data, recognizes the dispensing diameter during pre-dispensing, and controls the dispensing volume automatically. It also notifies the operator of the remaining adhesive in the syringe. These automated support features for routine work reduce the workload and help prevent human errors in routine tasks.
