Yamaha Motor Wins Taiwan Golden Pin Design Award Grand Prize, EC-05 Electric Scooter Receives Second Design Award
December 9, 2019
IWATA, December 9, 2019-Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. (Tokyo: 7272) announced today that its EC-05 electric scooter has received the “Best Design” - the highest honor - in the Taiwan Golden Pin Design Award. Following on from being named “Winner” in the “German Design Award,” this recognition represents the second design accolade for the EC-05.
The EC-05 is an electric scooter developed in collaboration with Gogoro Inc. (head office: Taoyuan City, Taiwan; CEO: Horace Luke) and sold in Taiwan. Based on Yamaha Motor’s development philosophy, the EC-05 design creates a beautiful sense of unity between the rider and machine. The design visualizes the function of the motor power being transmitted to the rear wheel, clawing at the ground to drive the bike forward. In addition, the positioning of the character line high on the body shows off its lightness and high maneuverability. Among a selection of four color schemes available, “Isolate Blue” has been specially developed for this model. The mysterious blue on the EC-05 brings creates the feeling of a new experience.
Hosted by the Taiwan Design Center since 1981, the "Golden Pin Design Award" is the design competition attracting the most attention in Greater China*. It encourages the creation of products whose designs pay attention to aspects of craftsmanship such as lifestyle, cultural characteristics, technology, and usage patterns, and are also well balanced across aspects such as consistency, creativity, functionality, aesthetics, and communicability.
This selection represents Yamaha Motor's first-ever Taiwan Golden Pin Design Award.
*Greater China refers to P.R. China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, and Malaysia.
