“Yamaha Motor Group Environmental Plan 2050” Formulated — Aiming to Reduce CO2 Emissions by 50% from the base year 2010 —

IWATA, December 20, 2018—Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. (Tokyo:7272) announced today the “Yamaha Motor Group Environmental Plan 2050”. This plan was developed along the lines of the international Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi*1), the Plan aims to reduce “CO2 emissions during product use”, “CO2 emissions in production and logistics” and “the volume of resources use” by 50% from the base year 2010 to the target year 2050. At the same time, the Plan also involves taking initiatives regarding environmental preservation and biodiversity from a global perspective.
Yamaha Motor has promoted environmental management since formulating its Global Environment Policy in 1991. Driven by the “Yamaha Group Global Environment Policy”, the entire Yamaha Motor Group (including overseas operations) has been taking environmental initiatives befitting a global company since 2003, and is currently making solid progress towards achieving the goals laid out in the "Yamaha Motor Group Environmental Plan 2020." At the same time, as evidenced through the United Nations' SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) as well as the signing of the Paris Agreement regarding climate change etc., expectations are rising in international society that companies will take proactive steps toward addressing ESG (environmental, society, and governance) issues.
We have grown by developing diverse products which are “lightweight and compact”, have a small global environmental footprint, and are actively used across the planet’s vast expanse of land, sea and air to provide freedom of movement and more fulfilling lifestyles for people all over the world. Moving forward, we will aim for sustainable social development and continue to offer new and exciting products and a more fulfilling life to people all over the world through achieving the goals of the "Yamaha Motor Group Environmental Plan 2050" as a company taking proactive initiatives regarding ESG issues.
