Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. announced today that it becomes an official sponsor for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Yamaha will undertake a variety of sponsor activities beginning with the Final Round of the 2006 FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifiers, which are scheduled to be held on February 9 of this year at Saitama Stadium and other three venues across Asia as Official Sponsor of AFC. Advertisements for Yamaha Motor will be displayed at the Stadium, and the company's logo will appear on the advertising boards surrounding the field. The company will also conduct a number of sales promotions at the Stadium.
TheThe AFC is one of the six continental Confederations (Europe, South America, Africa, North and Central America and the Caribbean, Oceania, and Asia) under the umbrella of FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association), the official governing body of international soccer. The AFC's membership comprises soccer associations from 45 countries and regions from South-East Asia to the Middle East, including Japan and Korea. It oversees and operates many soccer matches in Asian region, including the finals of the Asian Qualifiers for the Beijing Olympics and the FIFA World Cup Qualifying Finals, such as the one between Japan and North Korea on Feb. 9.
Yamaha Motor created a soccer club in 1972 (currently Jubilo Iwata) and a rugby club in 1984, in keeping with its Corporate Mission of “Creating Kando,” knowing that these two sports were particularly well suited to the corporate culture of “Taking on New Challenges,” which has been at the company's core since its founding. Both of these clubs are currently recognized as being among the strongest in Japan. The entire Yamaha Motor Group is also involved in the operation of youth soccer schools and rugby schools, the aim of which is to foster strong, creative young men and women through activities in soccer, rugby, and other sports that are loved by people throughout the world.
By this sponsorship to the Asian Football Confederation, and through the sports-related promotions that represent an important part of the company's social contribution activities, Yamaha Motor hopes to play an even greater role in the growth and development of soccer in the Asian region.
