Sanshin Industries Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan; Representative: Shinya Sato), a marine engine manufacturing subsidiary of Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd., will change its company name to Yamaha Marine Co., Ltd. on February 22, 2003.
From the time it was established in 1960, Sanshin Industries Co., Ltd. has developed and manufactured a wide lineup of outboard motors featuring both 2- and 4-stroke models, and ranging from 2 to 250 horsepower for utility and pleasure applications, as well as marine engines for personal watercraft, diesel engines for small boats, and other marine products.
Sanshin Industries produced approximately 300,000 units in fiscal 2002, with sales amounting to 87.6 billion yen, and expects a substantial increase in fiscal 2003, to 100 billion yen.
Sanshin Industries reached the six million unit mark for total cumulative production of outboard motors in May 2000. Today, the company manufactures and delivers products to more than 170 countries worldwide. It has seven manufacturing sites, including the headquarters Nippashi factory, four domestic factories in Kuramatsu, Fukude, Arai and Kawawa and two overseas sites, in St. Quentin City, France and Manaus City, Brazil. Sanshin Industries has also provided capital and technical know-how to Yamaha Kumamoto Products Co., Ltd., an affiliate that manufactures small-sized outboard motors.
The name change from Sanshin Industries to Yamaha Marine is designed to further strengthen its corporate structure and expand its business growth. At the same time, it will raise the worldwide profile of Sanshin Industries as a leading manufacturer of marine engines. The renamed company will be a vital component of the development and manufacturing capabilities of the ME Company, which was established as an in-house company of Yamaha Motor on January 1, 2003. Although the company name will change, the shareholder makeup and capitalization will remain the same. |
