On June 22, Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. (YMC) began installation of the special temporary-facility pool "Swim 21," to be used as the main competition pool for the swimming and synchronized swimming competitions at the "9th World Swimming Championships - Fukuoka 2001" which will be held in Fukuoka from July 20th.
The pool itself will be fully assembled by June 26, while the overall construction period for the accompanying pool-side facilities for which YMC is responsible will be the 15 days until July 6. The prefabricated pool units and filtration equipment were shipped from YMC's Arai factory to Fukuoka on June 20.
The "Swim 21" pool is 50-meter by 25-meter FRP (fiberglass) pool with a depth of 3 meters that will be installed in the indoor space of the Marine Messe Fukuoka (Hakata-Ward, Fukuoka City) multi-purpose convention center. This "Swim 21" will be the first special temporary-facility 50-meter FRP pool in the world ever to receive international certification as a competition pool.
Concerning the warm-up pool and water polo pool that YMC is commissioned to build, construction of the pools themselves was completed on June 12 and June 16 respectively and all three FRP pools will be completely installed prior to the competition by the time of the opening of the main pool to the public on July 8th. |
