Yamaha's GHP (Gas Heat-Pump air conditioner) Operations Win "ISO9001" Certification

February 23, 1999

In February of 1999, Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd.'s GHP (Gas Heat-Pump air conditioner) Operations was granted certification under the "ISO9001" standard of the International Organization for Standardization, guaranteeing product quality in all aspects from design and development to sales and after-sale service.
At the same time, Yamaha's GHP manufacturer, SOQI, Inc. (Location: Kakegawa City, Shizuoka Pref.; Representative: Fumio Kawaguchi) received "ISO9002" certification for its GHP manufacturing division.

The certifying authority for the recent certifications was the Norway-based DNV (Det Norske Veritas) and their inspections covered, at YMC's GHP Operations, the areas of development, quality control, general affairs, service and the marketing and sales department, including its eight regional sales offices, while at SOQI, Inc. it covered the GHP-related manufacturing departments.

The recent certifications come on the wake of concerted efforts on the part of Yamaha's GHP Operations to integrate all aspects of their business from engineering and manufacturing to sales and marketing with the construction of a new factory and offices on the grounds of SOQI, Inc. that opened in May of 1998. And the certification means that a new level of quality control has been achieved.

YMC has long devoted itself to being not just a manufacturer of products but a corporation that constantly strives for higher levels of quality in all areas of its corporate activities from product development and manufacturing to sales and after-service.
The recent ISO9000 series certifications for our GHP Operations is the latest in a succession of efforts to improve quality standards throughout the Yamaha Group that includes the October 1996 certification of YMC's Motorcycle Operations and Purchasing Operations and the subsequent certification of our AM (Automotive) Operations and Casting Operations.
