Revision of our Corporate Philosophy and Long-term Management Vision

April 18, 1997

For the first time in seven years Yamaha Motor Co., ltd. has revised its "Corporate Philosophy" and "Long-term Management Vision," last established in October, 1990. The revision represents Yamaha's positive response to the changes in the times and the business environment in which we work as we enter an era where markets and information are increasingly borderless and globalization of business proceeds at an ever accelerating pace.

The purpose of the revisions is to draw a clearer picture of the kind of corporation we want to be and the directions we want our corporate activities to pursue as we approach the 21st century, as well as to encourage a renewed recognition by all companies of the Yamaha Motor group that we are now living in an age of truly international competition.

In order to realize the kind of corporate image we are aiming at, in addition to revisions that respond to the needs of the times, we have also sought to create guidelines that are simple and clear in nature so they will help each and every employee act with specific direction and purpose.

The new "Corporate Philosophy" consists of a "Corporate Mission," a set of " Management Principles" and "Guidelines for Action."
The corporate goal takes as its core Yamaha's existing long-term vision expressed in the words, "We create 'Kando' -- Touching People's Hearts."
As a company that creates "Kando" (the Japanese word expressing the simultaneous feelings of deep satisfaction and intense excitement), we at Yamaha Motor are committed to creating a higher level of customer satisfaction, using our ingenuity and enthusiasm to enrich people's lives.
The three "Management Principles" that we adhere to in order to achieve our corporate mission are: (1) Surpassing customer expectations, (2) Establishing a corporate environment that fosters self-esteem, and (3) Fulfilling social responsibilities globally. As for our "Long-term Management Vision," Yamaha Motor will strive for the next 10 years to be "A leading company that continues to evolve in the globalmarket."
