The Australian National Surf Life Saving Championship

Report on The Australian National Surf Life Saving Championship

The Australian National Surf Life Saving Championship was successfully held in March at Kurrawa Beach on Queensland’s Gold Coast.

The ‘Aussies’ as they are known locally attracts over 8000 participants from 285 surf clubs and consequently is one of the biggest sporting events held anywhere in the world.
A huge number of surf life saving related skills were on display, including events such as swimming, surf ski paddling, surf board racing and team rowing. These sports combine with a surf carnival atmosphere to provide a uniquely Australian spectacle. Yamaha Motor Australia sponsors the SLSA organisation as a preferred supplier and provides its clubs with outboard motors, WaveRunners and ATVs for surf rescue purposes. YMA also sponsors the ‘Aussies’ which attracts huge amounts of interest nationwide. A few days before the event, SLSA club members met with Queensland Yamaha representatives to pick up their products for the coming year.
“We are very happy with our relationship with the Surf Life Saving Association which is now in its third year. Not only do we supply marine products to their clubs, but we also supply ATVs and the new Rhino which has become a popular patrol vehicle on our beaches,” says YMA director Steven Cotterell.
