What is OMDO?

Since the 1960s, Yamaha Motor has used ODA projects and other endeavors to engage in the modernization of the fisheries industry in emerging and developing markets, particularly in Africa. Our efforts include the introduction of outboard motors, FRP fishing boats, and information regarding fishing methods and catch preservation methods. The Overseas Projects Division was established in January 1977 with the aim of providing ongoing cooperation for the development and improvement in welfare of these countries through our businesses. In October 1991, Overseas Market Development Operations (OMDO) was established as a business division. It continues the company's initiatives, guided by the mission of “Challenge & Dedication for Prosperity.”

OMDO is now responsible for Yamaha Motor's operations in over 140 emerging and developing markets in Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia, South Asia, the South Pacific, Central America, and the Caribbean, supplying a wide variety of products and services through local distributors. (As at September 2021)

Through area-based marketing, which takes into account the politics, economics, social condition, culture, traditions, and customs of each country, we ascertain their local issues and needs. We identify feasible areas of business and do business as social action programs, which address social issues in partnership with international society.
The issues and needs in each country change with the times and circumstances, but we have adapted to these changes through business founded on developing products suited to the market, building a service network, training mechanics, teaching correct use/riding techniques, and coordinating with governments, international institutions, and NGOs.
