1Reliable 2-stroke engine

A 2-stroke, single-cylinder engine has the big advantage of strong, torque-y performance. The air-cooled type used on the DT models also has the advantage of reduced weight and easier servicing, because it doesn't require a liquid-cooling component. A 2-stroke also doesn't require regular oil changes.

2YEIS for better fuel efficiency and power

The DT engines are fitted with the exclusive Yamaha Energy Induction System (YEIS). This unique intake system features a chamber between the carburetor and the reed valve that fills with air-fuel mixture when the reed valve is closed. The chamber's contents are then returned to the air-fuel flow from the carburetor when the reed valve opens. This increases intake efficiency to provide both added power in the low- to mid-speed range and better fuel economy.

3Strong and durable rear carrier

The strong steel rear carrier has a flat top surface. It is mounted almost on the same level as the rear seat to accommodate a greater variety of loads and loading styles.

4Rugged front and rear suspensions

The DT models feature strong, proven suspensions, front and rear. The rear suspension is a Monocross type featuring a single cushioning unit (shock absorber) with the front end attached to the frame and the rear end to the swingarm. This structure realigns the forces of the up-down movement of the rear wheel in a slightly diagonal direction to absorb the shocks from the road. This ensures plenty of rear wheel travel, good road surface follow, good performance on rough surfaces and riding comfort. This is Yamaha technology born and proved in the race arena.

5Seat designed to reduce fatigue of riding

The spacious seat is designed to enable a relaxed riding position with more freedom that makes riding more comfortable on hilly roads and trails or on longer rides. The design features the right balance of cushioning material, shape and cover material to help reduce the fatigue of the rider and tandem passenger.

621-inch front, 18-inch rear tyres

The DT models come fitted with dual-purpose tyres designed for optimum performance on rough roads, good stability on paved roads and good resistance to abrasion. In particular, the large 21-inch front tyre helps provide steady handling and contributes to better steering performance and stability on rough roads.

7Up-slanted muffler

The exhaust pipe and muffler are designed not only to provide optimum exhaust efficiency but also to be positioned as close as possible to the machine's center. This layout helps centralize machine mass and that means a ride with lighter, easier handling. This is Yamaha technology born and honed on the racetrack.
