Adapting Yamaha’s Pioneering eBike Technology for Wheelchairs
In a world-first, Yamaha adapted the technology from its eBikes
to create a kit for electrifying manual wheelchairs. The electric motor
provides a power assist based on the force applied to the handrims,
as if someone is gently pushing you from behind.
Key Features
This wheelchair combines the power of handrim propulsion with motor assistance. It expands the possibilities for individuals who previously found manual wheelchair propulsion difficult due to environmental or physical constraints.

- Single-Press Mode Switching
- Switching between low and high power assist levels is done with a single push of the mode button, which lights up or turns off to indicate the current mode.
• Ride Mode 1 (button lit): Low power assist*
• Ride Mode 2 (button off): High power assist*
*Factory default settings. Power assist characteristics can be changed via the JW Smart Tune software.

- Easy Removal for Transport
- The drive wheels can be quick-released from the wheelchair frame for compact and easy storage in a car for transport and then fitted again once at the day’s destination.
*Depending on the frame of the wheelchair, the electric motor unit/drive wheels may not be detachable.
- Smart Technology
-
- Smart Control System is Yamaha's proprietary operating system to control all components as one system – this feature is unique in the power assist mobility market
- Smart Tune Software customizes sensitivity, drivability and provides troubleshooting
- Trained professionals can use Smart Tune to customize two different driving modes. A few of the driving mode options available include:

- *1
- The value is the load capacity for the JWX-2. When the wheelchair is completely assembled, the total weight of the rider and luggage must not exceed the load capacity of the wheelchair frame.
If the wheelchair is operated continuously with a load that exceeds this value, the product could malfunction or be damaged, or its life could be shortened
- *2
- The travel range varies depending on the conditions of the road surface (travel over curbs, on slopes, and so on) and may be shorter than this value.
- *3
- This is the available temperature range. Confirm the recommended temperatures for "7.3." and "8.3."
