Yamaha made its initial foray into India in 1985. In August 2001, Yamaha India became a 100% subsidiary of Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd, Japan (YMC). In 2008, Mitsui & Co., Ltd. entered into an agreement with YMC to become a joint-investor in the motorcycle manufacturing company "India Yamaha Motor Private Limited (IYM)".

In April 2013, two functionally independent entities, namely Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt. Ltd. (YMIS) and Yamaha Motor Research and Development India Pvt. Ltd. (YMRI) were established. YMIS caters to the sales and marketing needs of Yamaha in India and YMRI is intended to become an R&D headquarter in India to increase Yamaha’s manufacturing competitiveness through systematic cost-down activity.

With a strong workforce of more than 2,000 employees, IYM is highly customer-driven and has a countrywide network of over 400 dealers. Presently, its product portfolio includes YZF-R15 Version 2.0 (150cc), Fazer (153cc), FZ-S (153cc), FZ (153cc), SZ, SZ-X & SZ-R (153cc), SS125 (123cc), YBR 125 (123cc), YBR 110 (106cc), Crux (106cc) and scooter Ray (113cc) and Ray Z (113cc). Its import portfolio includes VMAX (1,679cc), YZF-R1 (998cc) and FZ1 (998cc).


  • ‘The Pink Line’ – A dedicated assembly line which is run by an all women team. This was a unique move by IYM to empower women from the weaker sections of the society by providing them the opportunity to learn while they earn.


  • Ray made By Women For Women - Bollywood actress and IYM Brand Ambassador Ms. Deepika Padukone launched the Ray in white color earlier in 2013. Ray was IYM’s first offering in the scooter segment in India in 2012. The scooter was targeted at women customers and was made by ‘The Pink Line’. In other words as our CEO & MD – Mr. H. Suzuki San would like to quote, “Ray made By Women For Women”.


  • Ray Z launched – IYM’s second offering in the scooter segment, the Ray Z was targeted at young boys. YMC President Yanagi San was present during its launch in India in 2013. During this event we also spread news about our new Brand Slogan ‘Revs your Heart’.


  • Diwali Celebrations at IYM – Diwali, also known as the festival of lights is the most celebrated festival in India. At IYM a week long celebration takes place which involves talent contest, Rangoli making (Colourful designs on the floor), Painting and Antakshari (Chain-singing contest). In the above picture employees engage themselves in ‘Rangoli’ making competition.


  • Yamaha Female Riding Training Program (YFRT) – Post the launch of Ray in India IYM launched the YFRT program in order to educate young women to adopt safe riding habits. This is a regular programme which gets conducted throughout the year in various colleges and educational institutes across India. Our objective is to help young women become safe riders and less prone to accidents.


  • IYM Chennai Factory Groundbreaking ceremony – The ground breaking ceremony for IYM’s new Chennai factory was conducted on 16th September 2013 to mark the start of the active phase of the new plant construction . A brief worship session was conducted to invoke the blessings of the almighty. In the above picture IYM senior officials lay down the foundation stone.
